Commercial Vehicles Are Restricted From Picking/Dropping Passengers At The Onitsha BridgeHead Axis

ARTMA Report 01 Nov, 2023

ARTMA REPORT

Wednesday, 1st November 2023.

ONITSHA BRIDGEHEAD

Over time, the Onitsha Bridgehead axis has been known to be an area where driver lawlessness/ recklessness is at its peak, especially by commercial vehicle drivers who pick up and drop off passengers indiscriminately.

Passengers have also developed the habit of walking up to the bridge with their luggage to catch a bus instead of using the motor parks.

Henceforth, It is an offense for anyone to wait, walk, or trade on the bridge(motorway) except on the pedestrian pathway on the sides of the bridge. (appropriate signs have been installed)

To check the above-mentioned, all commercial vehicles are henceforth mandated to pick up and drop passengers ONLY in the major park beside OGBO ABADA MARKET or government-designated parks in the area.

Double yellow lines have also been marked on the road in the area.

Any commercial vehicle (including shuttles and Tricycles A.K.A keke) picking up or dropping passengers anywhere along the express will be impounded for 7 days – strict fines apply.

All commercial vehicle doors MUST be kept closed once outside the park to prevent passengers from entering or alighting at will as officers would be on the lookout for offenders.

Strict adherence is advised.

Together, we will restore the orderliness, sanity, and beauty of Onitsha as desired by Mr Governor Prof Charles Soludo.
