ARTMA Boss, Engr. Okonkwo Emeka Activates Master Plan For Zero Gridlock In Anambra During Christmas, New Year
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency, ARTMA, Engineer Emeka Okonkwo has mapped out strategies to checkmate traffic issues in Anambra State during Christmas and new year festivities.
Engineer Okonkwo announced the plans during a meeting to prep up staff and ad-hoc workers for the busy schedule, with the yuletide just over a week away.
Part of the measures to tackle heavy traffic during the period, according to the ARTMA boss, include three weeks shiftless timetable for all ARTMA staff, ending on January 10, 2023, recruitment of temporary workers and volunteers to support the existing human capacity, as well as strengthening the logistical structure of the agency.
Addressing the team, made up of four hundred and twenty permanent staff and one hundred and twenty ad-hoc staff, Engineer Okonkwo said with the expected human and vehicular inflows in Anambra State during the period, it is important for the agency to triple its strength and device solid strategies to ensure minimal traffic on major roads in the state.
He said that while some of the temporary workers and volunteers would take charge of traffic control only, others will supplement numbers of ARTMA officials manning notably busy roads, and stated that anyone that goes against the tenets of professionalism would be sanctioned.
The ARTMA MD/CEO also reminded the team that expectations are high on the agency, adding that the season would ultimately define its traffic management capacity.
The Hon. Commissioner for Information Sir Paul Nwosu who also witnessed the event commended the activities of the agency since the appointment of the new M.D and urged the ARTMA officials to continue to positively portray the Government of Anambra state in traffic management. He also promised that his ministry will continue to educate motorists on the importance of obeying road signs.
On his part, the General Manager of ARTMA, Mr. Chidi Umezinwa said that Engineer Okonkwo’s three months at the helm of the agency have been impressive largely because of his zeal to work and experience.
Six staff members of the agency as well as one group from the ad-hoc team, were also rewarded for their hard work and professional conduct in the line of duty.
