We’ll Begin Enforcement On Commercial Bus Drivers And Roadside Traders In The Coming Weeks

The ARTMA enforcement team led by Engr Okonkwo Emeka-KONTI revisited all the areas where the NO TRADING and NO LOADING, USE THE PARK signs were installed across Onitsha.
Unfortunately, five (5) days after all the installations, the commercial drivers and traders have ignored those signs despite the provision of designated parks.
The street traders take over 25 percent of the road which doesn’t just cause traffic but is a threat to life as vehicles could run into them.
We advised them in most places to go behind the drainage but that fell on deaf ears.
It was another day of caution and we tried to familiarise them with the signs and the right thing to do.
Several complaints about directional signs were received last week around the roundabout under the bridgehead, the team moved into action to solve the problem – required signs were installed.
By the Eze-Iweka junction, we included the NO KEKE BEYOND HERE signs to stop all the tricycles that cluster at the junction.
In the coming week, enforcement will commence and the agency is determined to keep defaulters vehicles/goods impounded for seven (7) days without an option of fine.
Gradually and consistently, we would sanitize the Anambra roads.
